Anthony La Ratta Appointed Chair of ABA Committee
Archer Partner Anthony R. La Ratta was recently appointed Chair of the National Conference of Lawyers and Corporate Fiduciaries Committee of the American Bar Association’s Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Section. His term will begin September 1.
As Chair, Mr. La Ratta has overall leadership responsibility for the Committee, which focuses on the bar’s interaction with corporate fiduciaries. Composed of representatives of the American Bar Association and representatives of the trust division of the American Bankers Association, Committee members address matters of common interest between the two associations to help eliminate controversies which could give rise to misunderstandings and litigations between the two groups. Mr. La Ratta just completed a 2-year term as Chair of the Litigation, Ethics & Malpractice Group of the Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Section.
The Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law, which includes around 22,000 members, is a leader in providing subject matter expertise on current regulatory and legal issues, trends and best practices. The Trust and Estate Division includes all aspects of trusts, estate planning, employee benefits, insurance, and probate and trust litigation.
Mr. La Ratta concentrates his practice in the area of Trust & Estate litigation, with an emphasis in litigation involving probate matters, estates, trusts, guardianships, and fiduciaries. He has represented institutions and individuals in a variety of contexts, including banks, corporate fiduciaries, executors, trustees, beneficiaries of estates and trusts, incapacitated persons, surviving spouses, and intestate heirs. Mr. La Ratta has handled cases involving will contests, undue influence, diminished capacity, contested guardianships, writings intended as wills, breach of fiduciary duty, and accountings of estates and trusts.
Mr. La Ratta is also admitted by the State of New Jersey to the roster of court-approved mediators for probate cases and has been appointed by the courts to assist in resolving such disputes through mediation.
